PROGRAM GUIDELINES

SPORTER & PRECISION

The state level Junior Olympic 3-position air rifle competitions are designed to qualify competitors to attend the National Junior Olympic 3-Position Air Rifle Championships. This new program encourages the continued growth of air rifle competition shooting throughout the United States. Three-position sporter and precision air rifle shooting represents the fastest-growing and largest segment of youth sport shooting events in our country.   Our goal is to have all states represented in the First Annual National Junior Olympic 3-Position Air Rifle Championships.

USA Shooting is serving as the coordinator of this cooperative program representing the American Legion, 4-H Shooting Sports, the Civilian Marksmanship Program and others.

The 4 man teams invited to the National Championship will receive limited support for housing and meals while in Atlanta and may receive limited travel funding depending on how much sponsorship  funding is received.  One major sponsorship has already been approved by the CMP Board of Directors ; other sponsorships are pending.

In addition to the sporter and precision teams that will represent each state in the National Championship, up to 25 at- large individual qualifiers will be selected in sporter and 25 in precision to participate in the national competition.  This will assure that all the best three-position sporter and precision air rifle junior shooters in the U.S. have an opportunity to qualify.  The championship provides for one day for travel and two days of competition where there is a 3X20 event each day.  A final for the top eight individual shooters will be held at the end of the second 3X20 event.  At the championship, sporter teams  and precision teams will report on a date to be determined at a later.
